Hey Mike, perfect timing for this post! We just finished up doing some serious optimization of the 'Plug This' widget. We knocked it down from 97.5 KB to 4.4 KB. Sure it's still 4 times as large as Digg's button, but at least it won't cost you a visitor! Digg's button sends your visitor to Digg, but if they vote for you on the PlugIM button, it updates right on your site using AJAX so you don't lose your visitor. That's quite a deal, don't you think? ;-)

Background color is on the table for a future release but not yet supported.
